Lauren Beukes' new novel Zoo City, is due out worldwide in June 2010 through Angry Robot and Jacana in South Africa.
Her previous novel, Moxyland, is a dystopian thriller which connects a ruthless corporate-apartheid government with video games, biotech attack dogs, slippery online identities, a township soccer school, shocking cellphones, addictive branding, and genetically modified art.
Moxyland spawned its own gritty soundtrack and collectible Moxy monster, hand-made by the Montagu Sew & Sews, a woman's empowerment collective.
She is also the author of Maverick: Extraordinary Women From South Africa's Past (Oshun 2005), a rollicking non-fiction about rogues, raconteurs and renegades from jazz singer and gangster's moll, Dolly Rathebe to snake-dancing stripper Glenda Kemp and glam revolutionary Ruth First.
