Inaugural Litblitz raises almost R8000 for women refugees!

June 18th, 2008 by Lauren Beukes

I just got fabulous news from Tania, who organised the inaugural Litblitz event at the Joburg Country Club and Baobab Bookstore in Long Street on Sunday past, that the event raised R7880!

The evening featured five minute readings from me, Finuala Dowling, Gus Ferguson, Hugh Hodge, Patricia Schonstein, my awesome coworkers Sarah Lotz and Sam Wilson, Epiphanie Mukasano and Mary Magdalene Yuin Tal of the Whole World Women Association, a xx chromosome refugee group who benefited from the evenings proceedings.

(and a screening of Terry Westby Nunn’s documentary Klean Kut and with the hilarious Guy Willoughby in the MC hotseat, a catered dinner and live jazz with
Andrew Ford on keyboard, Lucrecia Rodrigues on vocals and Graham Beyer on double bass and ).

If you missed it, you missed out. But there will be more events. The organisers are looking at making this a regular gig.

Anyway, here’s the mail from Tania:

“Just to let you know we raised a grand total of rand 7880 on the night!
Entry: 3260
Donated Books - Living on the Fence & Maverick :1155
Meals: 3320 (NB 40 rand and NOT 60 rand of each meal went to WWWA)
Extra donation: 45.

The money has been deposited in WWWA’s account today! And the food & toiletries have been dropped off at one of the City collection points

Thank you sooooo much for being a part of this. Without you, we could have never achieved this. and had so much fun.

Toodleloo,

Tania
